Most Loved Beauty Products of 2018

Hello friends! I should have pushed this out sooner, but I really wanted to take my time to put together my list of my most loved beauty products of the year for you. Some of these are my holy grail products and you know I’ve talked about them before, but why stop using a great product? So without further ado, let’s jump in to my most loved products of the year and why I love them.

Base

Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs, and Rosewater

I use this spray almost daily. It’s perfect for refreshing your skin, whether it be first thing in the morning after a good wash or mid-afternoon post workout.. I enjoy the fresh rose scent and I feel like it takes your skin to the next level. I use this after I’ve washed my face in the morning and evening. Two quick, easy pumps. I can’t confirm that it has actually changed my skin, but I swear it feels magical. 1-2 pumps is all you need. Bonus – this is a really affordable spray. Ulta likes to hide MB products on the prestige side of the store – and some of the products are definitely pricier than the drugstore counterparts, but I think it is worth picking up. They have some smaller size bottles for under $10.00 for those who aren’t sure about dropping more than that on a facial mist.

FAB Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer

If you’ve been around on my Instagram, you know that I have been OBSESSED with this primer. I’ve used it almost every day that I’ve done my makeup and am almost out. Unfortunately, this one is a bit on the pricier side, so I’m going to have to hold off on re-buying a new one once this one is empty. She’s true to her name and hydrates your skin while priming it for your foundation. I also love the smell. I usually will spot prime with this in areas of my face that get extra dry and then go in with the next primer….

Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer

I couldn’t pick just one primer because I have a couple of needs to address. My pores are the size of potholes in the road. So I just put a little of the Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer in my t zone and my foundation goes on so much smoother. I just use the tiniest amount on the tip of my finger and smooth it across my skin. I love that this primer doesn’t pile up when I layer products over it either. I can’t get enough of it. It’s silky, smooth perfection. I happened upon it in Ulta last Christmas and it was a full sized Photo Finish Primer and a travel sized Pore Minimizing Primer for less than the price of a normal full size of any of their primers so I had to grab it.

L’Oreal Infallible Pro Glow Foundation

This is one of my HG products. I have dry skin so I usually opt for a dewy finish foundation. I really love this one because it’s light-medium (buildable) coverage, it’s a great color match for my pale skin, and it lasts ALL DAY LONG… even through my workouts after an 8 hour work day! I can use either a sponge or a brush to apply it and no matter what I do it looks fantastic. I wear the shade 202 Creamy Natural.

Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder

This was a purchase I made back in my “out of control spending” days, but I don’t regret it. It’s a wonderful product. I use very little each day on a small brush to set my foundation and concealer. I use a gently pressing motion, not a back and forth brushing to apply before adding any other powder products.

Eyes

ABH Soft Glam Eyeshadow Palette

I lusted SO hard over this palette before buying it to make sure it wasn’t going to be another Subculture fiasco. And when the good reviews were flooding the internet, I made a trip to Ulta. And I’ve never looked back. I love this warm-toned palette so much and used it more than other palettes this year for sure. I wouldn’t say every day, but definitely more than the rest. I wanted one of ABH’s palettes, but being someone who doesn’t go crazy with color, I couldn’t justify buying some of her other palettes. I will say this palette can be a little tricky to use, so I’ll go into more detail on how I use it and tips for applying these eye shadows on my full review of the palette. (I’ll link that post here as soon as it goes live!)

NYX Micro Brow

Y’all already know this is my holy grail of eye brow pencils. It’s easy to use. It has great pigmentation, but not too much that it looks fake. I also love how long it lasts. She’s included in my Complete Drugstore Makeup Kit for Beginners, my Recent Empties and Throwaways, and my Highend v. Drugstore Dupes posts. (All links open in a new tab so you won’t lose your spot!)

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara

I know I’ve talked about a lot of mascaras this year, but I re-found this one and fell in love all over again. I love the wand on Lash Sensational. It’s curved to hug every lash and flared. The inside of the curve has shorter bristles, but the outside/back of the wand has longer bristles. I can hug my lower lashes with the short bristles and flare out the top lashes to look like I’m wearing falsies (which I can’t stand).

Face

Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer

This is my second compact of this bronzer. I have used this bronzer almost every day last year and even quit reaching for my Benefit Hoola Bronzer once I got this. I have used both the light and regular bronzer shades, but I know PF has other shades in case you have a darker complexion and want to use this. Butter Bronzer is very buildable and blents out wonderfully. I use it both for an all over bronze and a contour-style bronze.

Hourglass Ambient Light Palette

For the latter half of the year, I’ve been going through a “minimalist highlight” phase as I call it. I’ve been loving highlight, but wanted it to be more subtle and this has been perfect. I just apply like any other highlight but the end result is this healthy, subtle glow to the highpoints of my face. I also will lightly brush any extra product across my forehead and under my eyes for that perfect “lit-from-within” glow. This is definitely a splurge item, but I don’t regret purchasing it when I did.

ABH Amreezy Highlight

This is such a pretty golden highlight and I wear it really regularly. I love the color and how it looks on my skin. It can be applied softly or built up to a blinding highlight. I don’t find it to be overly glittery either. I reached for this the most in 2018. I probably won’t use it as much in 2019 since I’m working my way through my Makeup Rehab (quick read). I wouldn’t have included this in my post if ABH hadn’t brought the highlight back so grab it while you can if you’re looking for a stunning highlight.

Burts Bees Blush

I picked this up because I heard Kathleen Lights talking about it in a few of her youtube videos and she’s one of the beauty gurus that I trust inherently. I have the toasted cinnamon shade which is a warm, bronze color. I really lived with this on my face during the warmer months, but there are other shades if you’re on the fair side like me during most of the year. These are very pigmented so a little goes a long way and the product lasts for a long time.

Maybelline Fit Me Blush

I picked this up on a whim with my mom one day and we both have loved this blush. It’s got really good pigmentation and is easy to work with. I have the shade Coral and it’s very true to its name. You can build up the color just by adding another light layer and blending it out.

Lips

Burt’s Bee’s Peppermint Lip Balm

I live for this lip balm. It has a cool, tingling sensation when you first apply, and unlike other lip balms it legitimately helps moisturize your lips. I live for this lip balm and have like three – you know – a purse one, a work one, and one at home. Burt’s Bees has a bunch of different scent options, but I love the classic peppermint one!

Wet N’ Wild MegaLast Lipstick

The shade I have and swear by is Bare it All. This lipstick is dirt cheap and a spot on dupe for MAC Velvet Teddy. It’s a matte finish, but it’s not drying. I think it’s a very underrated lip product. I sometimes opt to apply the lipstick with a brush rather than the stick itseslf since it doesn’t have a point to it. This can make it a little harder to apply neatly.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream

These are amazing lip products for those who want a liquid lip type feel, but don’t want their lips to dry out. They dry down, but are still demi-matte. I have both Stockholm and Rome. I’m not a big lip product person, but I do enjoy these from time to time.

Set

Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray

I can’t believe I left this out of the photo…. I live by All-Nighter. It’s my everyday makeup setting spray. It helps my makeup last all day through work, meetings, and serious sweat sessions at the gym. I’ve seen the ads saying it’s transfer proof, but my makeup still transfers onto my clothes when I change or my honey’s shoulder when I give him a big hug.
