This weekend my best friend came into town for a girls weekend and of course we ended up at the mall. I spent more than I had intended, but I ended up with some great items that were much needed — and almost everything was on sale! Yes, my budget is hurting a little bit, but I am confident that it will recover and I am very happy with all of my purchases. This post is a quick review/first impressions of my haul.

Here’s what happened:
At Garage I always manage to get myself in trouble. This store is full of basic items and the most popular trends. They keep things simple, classic, but very stylish. This time I ended up walking away with a high neck crop top in black, perfect for high-waisted jeans and shorts alike, as well as a gorgeous hooded boyfriend fit flannel in a dark red with navy stripes. Both were on the sale rack and together cost about $36.00. Regular price these two items would have cost $61.90, which is a savings of about $26.00! 🙂 They are versatile pieces and can be paired with many different items already in my end of summer/fall wardrobe. I’ve purchased basic tanks, a dress, and flannel from Garage last year and all of them are still in great condition even after a lot of wear!
Following my favorite store, we wandered into New York & Company because the entire store was 50 percent off [or more] and I have been in dire need of dress pants for work! Being 4 feet 10 inches tall poses quite a few problems when it comes to shopping for pants. I lucked out this weekend and found a pair of petite straight leg black dress pants* and bonus a pair of open toe, open heel suede booties for both work and play! The pants are soft material with a little stretch. Unfortunately, I still have to get them hemmed a little bit, but other than the length issue they fit perfect! Together these items were about $55.00 when at full price would have cost me over $110.00! I definitely got my 50% savings, plus a bonus $15 dollars off coupon for a future purchase.
*They are always having sales and almost all of their clothes are available in regular, petite, and tall sizes!
After the mall came Target, which didn’t actually have all of the things I needed, resulting in a trip to Walmart too. From Target I picked up this cute backpack for 20% off and the new Maybelline Baby Lips in My Pink!
This backpack is faux leather with gold zippers and cute black tassel! It’s from the Mossimo Supply Co Brand, which has always held up to my roughness. I’m not very gentle with my stuff. This backpack is the perfect size for a purse or just general use and doesn’t look huge on my back considering I’m tiny. It has a small front pocket perfect for car keys, cell phone, and any other items you want to access quickly. It’s soft, but holds its shape even if it’s not full!
Also, I picked up the Baby Lips by Maybelline in the shade My Pink. It’s one of their newest balms and might be my new favorite shade of their lip balms! I’ve tried the original clear balm and the pink shade that comes in the orange tube and I love them both, but sometimes the pink is too bright for my casual or natural looks. The My Pink balm reacts to your body’s pH level and creates a unique shade that matches your skin tone. It’s more subtle than the pink tinted balm, and it smells like a cupcake! I believe I paid about $3.00 for this item.
At Walmart I purchased:
The 120 count of the Equate brand makeup remover wipes with cucumber, aloe vera, and green tea. They were on sale for $6.97!!! This is such an amazing deal. The best Target could offer was a 35 count wipe pack for almost $4.00. Not only do they remove makeup but they are exfoliating as well! I’ve used these wipes before, but switched to a liquid makeup remover that was entirely too oily for my skin even though it claimed to be oil-free. It was given to me for free, so I used it to the end, but it’s time to return to my true favorites!
I also grabbed this face wash. The St. Ives Blackhead Clearing Green Tea Scrub is one of my favorite face washes. It’s very well priced at around $3.50. I’ve used this scrub before, but tried out Cetaphil the last time I purchased a face wash and have finally run out of it. I enjoyed the Cetaphil, but prefer some type of exfoliator in my face wash. This one smells clean and is very gentle. The exfoliator beads are tiny and can even be used with a spinning face brush like the Clarisonic. I use my Mary Kay spinning face brush, simply because I got it on sale and can’t afford the Clarisonic or its refills.
Last but not least. The Real Techniques Eye Brushes 2.0 was the eye brush kit I picked up at Walmart today. It’s not the one I’ve linked above, but this is the closest I could find [I think this has something to do with Real Techniques updating their brush lines and improving their products]. I’ve been researching the RT brand recently and since my Morphe eye brushes are starting to come loose from the handles (I’ve had them for over a year and they were about $2.99 each. Also, I carry them everywhere with me and am not easy on my tools). They have served me well. As the caption says, my kit only came with the crease brush, the base brush, the thin liner brush, and the brow brush and cost about $14.00. I’m looking forward to using them this coming week. My first impression is that they are what I was looking for. They are soft but hold shape and I believe they will apply makeup and blend out shades very well! The handles are sturdy, sleek, and stylish.
Even though I spent more than I had originally planned this weekend, I have gotten new things that were either needed or will be put to great use. All in all, I’m very excited that I got to end the long day of shopping with my BFF over some Froyo and old memories. We laughed so much this weekend and watched a lot of MTV’s The Hills. I always have an amazing time with her and miss living with her like we did in college. A year apart and nothing has changed. Those are the greatest of friends… the ones that are also your soul mates. 🙂
Did any of you have any fun shopping this weekend? What’d you get?! Have you tried any of these products/brands that I hauled?
